Bonus Round

26 Aug 2024 - 08 Sep 2024

The final Rookie games have been completed, so it's time to round them up and look at the final standings. But first, on a more serious note, Count Luthor Von Drakenborg is looking for donations for a Blood Drive. Supplies of certain blood types are particularly low right now, so why not roll up your sleeves and offer a pint to help someone who needs it? All donations will be gratefully received, and will go to help the injured and... hungry? That's what it says here, but I'm sure it must be some kind of mistake. Anyway, onto the Roundup!

The White Mice came into their match against the Sokol Slaughterers knowing that a win would guarantee them the top spot, but anything less would risk losing it if other results didn't go their way. The Slaughterers, however, lived up to their names and crushed the rats, breaking through their flimsy armour at every opportunity. The one hope for the Mice, however, was that the Slaughterers were so focused on violence they couldn't be bothered with scoring more than one touchdown. Even with half the team hospitalised, the Skaven still had enough mobility to manage an equaliser and hope that one point would be enough.

The Grave Rubbers were the only team able to take advantage of the situation, as they faced up to Kry Havoc. The Khorne team had a slow start to the season but have shown themselves to be fairly unstoppable in the last few rounds. On this occasion they opted to target the Rubbers' werewolves, severely hampering their flexibility, and unlike the Slaughterers they also remembered to score to take the game 2-0 and dash the Rubbers' hopes of stealing the top spot.

The Dark Delvers had hoped to sneak into the top 5, but that went out of the window with the success of the Chaos teams. That didn't make them any less competitive, however, and they lined up against Chainsaw Buffet with murder in mind. It was a dirty game, with the goblins in particular relishing every opportunity to kick their opponents while they were down. A couple of removals gave the Buffet an opportunity to take the lead, but the Delvers fought back and ultimately won the game 2-1.

The last couple of games didn't happen, unfortunately. The Immortulz Ol Boyz claimed a win by default after the zombies of Grave Danger finally succumbed to the inevitable and literally fell to pieces and didn't have enough time to stitch themselves back together. And the Bright Jugglers took three points after the Yorkshire Nobs were called away to serve the Emperor at his court.

And with that, the Rookie division is complete. The White Mice take the title, with early leaders the Bright Jugglers claiming second at the last minute and pushing the Grave Rubbers into the bronze medal spot. At the other end of the table, the dogged insistence of I BalabiĆ²tt on no second chances leaves them bottom of the table, having managed just one win and one draw all season, with Chainsaw Buffet and the Immortulz Ol Boyz just above them with one point more.

So the regular season is done, but Saturday will see the top teams from the Rookie and Veteran divisions facing off against each other to claim the ultimate title. Attendees will have the opportunity to donate to the Blood Drive, which Count Luthor assures me is entirely above board. One look at those calming eyes of his should be enough to convince anyone that it's a worthy cause...
