Round 2
07 Oct 2024 - 27 Oct 2024
Papa Nurgle has been looking for entertainment since the Buffalo Biles retired from professional Blood Bowl. Round Two had to be extended thanks to an outbreak of Nurgle's Rot among the teams, and that same epidemic then spread to delay the match reporting as well. But here, at last, with only a little coughing here and there, is the Round Two Roundup. It's not technically late if Round Three hasn't finished yet, right?
In Division 1, the touchdowns came from the clash between the Dark Delvers and Huanchi's Jungle Rumble. The Rumble seemed unable to make much impression on the elves, who slipped past them to score twice and gave a skink a particularly brutal injury on the way. Meanwhile, the Grave Rubbers and the Sokol Slaughterers lined up for a particularly brutal match in which the ball was all but forgotten in favour of the players knocking seven bells out of each other. Fortunately nothing permanent was done to either side, and the match ended in a goalless draw. Lastly, the Bright Jugglers have sadly withdrawn from the competition this season after their commitments to deities other than Nuffle impacted their schedule, and so the Badlands Debating Society had a week off to paint their toenails and catch up on their favourite shows.
Division 2 saw very different fates for the two teams dedicated to Khorne. The Acomb Transfusions faced the Sauerapfel Sausage Rollers and their fans were no doubt feeling confident about their chances, but in fact it was the halflings who found themselves spilling their opponents' blood with abandon. The match ended 2-1 to the little guys, with the Transfusions losing two linemen to the grave. On the other side, the BlÄhaj Blasts showed how it's done with a thorough dismantling of the Nevermore Ravens. The vampires started strong and took an early lead, but not without losing their Vargheist to a strong block from the Blasts' Bloodspawn. With the manbat off the pitch the tide started to turn and the Blasts set about removing every player that they could. By the end of the match the Ravens only had three players left on the pitch and no way of stopping the Blasts from scoring twice to take the match. Lastly it was agility all around as the Cripple Peak Craprats took on the Sanguine Blade. Both teams were reliant on last-minute stand-ins with regular players out of action from their previous matches, and neither team seemed interested in getting into a fight. There was no blood for the more aggressive fans, but plenty of scoring action with the Blade having the edge and taking the victory 2-1.
Down in Division 3, the Hammer Horrors were up against the Talabecland Thunder. The Horrors proved not to be all that horrible this round, only managing a single casualty in the shape of the Thunder's catcher, while the Thunder attacked much harder and caused injuries the Horrors couldn't manage to walk off. The Thunder's manoeuvrability saw them win the game 2-0. In the battle of the greenskinz, the Blaa Korks faced the snotlings of Minor Threat and found the threat wasn't as minor as they were hoping when their star gobbo, Grak the Renowned, was taken off the pitch by a snot. The Korks managed a few removals of their own, but there are always more snotlings ready to hit the astrogranite and the final score was a 1-1 draw. Finally, the Nuln Oilers would have been feeling pretty good as they started the match against the Kroppenbruck Crusaders, with the Crusaders lacking their thrower and reliant on hired help to fill the gaps. Sadly, Nuffle wasn't on their side and a combination of good play from the Crusaders and some unlucky moments from the Oilers left the Crusaders victorious at 2-0.
Lastly, in Division 4 it was another battle of the greenskinz as the Orksha Rippaz faced the Mandalorcians on a swelteringly hot day. The Mandalorcians opted to go straight for the dirty play, only to find the ref watching over their shoulder and ready with the red card. From there the two teams traded punches, with a number of goblins removed, but the Rippaz managed to score two touchdowns along the way to win the match. Bushy's Bonerattlers took on the Boomtown Rats and it went about as would be expected with rats getting smashed into next week before the Bonerattlers lumbered over the line with the ball. Rat fans can take some solace in one of their blitzers successfully killing a wight. And finally, more rat casualties as the third orc team, the Full English, hammered Rottenham Hotfur in a brutal performance that killed a blitzer and a gutter runner and finished 2-1 to the orcs.
That's all for Round Two, and Round Three will be rounding up very soon!
